Chantilly High School students are educated, actively engaged and compassionate citizens.

School and Community Profile

Chantilly High School, located in the suburbs of western Fairfax County, has a population of 2886 students, 239 teachers, 12 counselors and 10 administrators. Since opening its doors in 1973, Chantilly has endeavored to provide students a college/career preparatory education of high quality in all dimensions - intellectual, emotional, social, and physical. All students at Chantilly high school have access to high quality, meaningful learning experiences that ensure students are equipped with strong communication, collaboration, creative and critical thinking skills, as well as content knowledge. Our student to faculty ratio is 12 to 1 and the student to computer ratio is 1 to 1.

 

Extra-Curricular Activities and Athletics 

Chantilly’s rigorous and comprehensive academic program is further enhanced through student participation and success beyond the classroom that includes:

  • 21 Virginia High School League (VHSL) Varsity Sports
  • 90+ Clubs
  • 8 VHSL Academic Teams
  • 12 Honor Societies

Chantilly’s VHSL accomplishments during the tenure of the current senior class include:

  • 15 District Titles
  • 9 Regional Titles
  • 7 State Titles
  • Chantilly was 2nd in State for the Wells Fargo Academic Cup and 22nd in State for the Wells Fargo Athletic Cup

Chantilly is one of 3 high schools from across the United States, to be named a winner of the 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 First Amendment Press Freedom Award by the Journalism Education Association. The Award recognizes high schools that actively support, teach, and protect First Amendment rights and responsibilities of students and teachers, with an emphasis on student-run media, where students are responsible for all final decisions of content.

Performing Arts Accolades 

Chantilly High School boasts a nationally award-winning Performing Arts Program to include:

  • All 4 of Chantilly’s orchestras received Superior ratings at the 2019 District Orchestra Assessment
  • Chantilly’s Chamber Orchestra was selected to perform at the 2018 Virginia Music Educators Association Professional Development Conference
  • Chantilly Chamber Chorale has received an Excellent or Superior rating at District Assessments for the past 7 years.
  • Chantilly Show Stoppers won 1st place in their division at the Koste Classic in Richmond, VA

Chantilly Drama is the largest theatre department in FCPS, accolades include:

  • 13 District One Act Play Competition Titles, 5 Regional and 4 State Championships
  • Cappies Program: Nominated for Best Play 12 times and won Best Set 8 times

Chantilly Band program serves approximately 10% of the CHS student population:

  • 1 of 25 bands nationwide selected to participate in the 2018 National Concert Band Festival
  • Straight Superior ratings for both Marching & Concert Band Programs at the 2019 District Band Assessment
  • Chantilly Jazz invited to perform at James Madison University in 2020

 

FCPS Academies

Six high school academies offer technical and specialized courses not found at all high schools. Career and Technical Education (CTE), fine arts, and world languages courses are accessed by students from all high schools. CTE courses offer numerous credentialing opportunities for students who pass industry certification exams.

Fairfax County Public Schools supports an open enrollment policy regarding student access to honors, AP and DE classes. Any student interested in taking these advanced courses may enroll in them.

Through an annual survey of all seniors, the class of 2020 reported the following post secondary plan intentions:

Grade point average (GPA) is calculated on the basis of all high school courses for which credit has been earned, attempted, and previously awarded. High school courses taken in middle school may be expunged from the high school transcript. The parent must submit a request within nine weeks of their child entering an FCPS high school.

Students who take a year-long AP, IB or dual enrollment course are granted 1.0 added to their GPA calculation for each course taken.
Students who take a year-long high school honors course in English, mathematics, science or social studies or who take a level 4 or 5 world language course are granted 0.5 to their GPA calculation for each course taken.
COVID-19 Information
During the Spring 2020, FCPS school buildings were closed from March 13 to the end of the school year, and students were provided with both synchronous and asynchronous distance learning. Students were awarded final grades equivalent to their semester grade or one grade bump higher than their semester grade (B to a B+) based on their level of engagement and mastery of subject matter. FCPS has opened schools virtually for the 2020-21 School Year. Students receive virtual instruction 5 days per week, including 4 days of live, face-to-face online instruction with teachers and one day of independent, asynchronous learning. Each class is 80 minutes in length. Student attendance is required and all students will receive assignments that will be graded.
