New Student Orientation, 8-11:30 AM - August 15: 

Class of 2028 (9th grade) and students new to Chantilly will enjoy high energy and engaging presentations that introduce them to our Charger spirit and help them orient themselves to the building and schedules.  All students will meet their teachers and walk through their A and B day schedules so that they are ready to Lead the CHARGE on the first day of school!  Bus transportation from feeder schools will be provided. More information specific to this event will be sent directly to families as the day approaches.

Charging In Open House 4:30-5:45 PM - August 15:

All Chantilly Students and their families are invited to our community Open House. Come and meet and greet teachers in classrooms, visit with our PTSA and Booster organizations, buy spirit wear and enjoy dinner from food trucks. Charging In is a self-guided, informal event intended to welcome our Charger community to the 24-25 school year. Shuttle buses will be available from Rocky Run MS and Franklin MS.  Carpool, walk or take a shuttle! Parking will be limited.

Every year, FCPS requires parents/guardians to review, sign, and return the SR&R parent/guardian signature page acknowledging awareness of online access to and/or the opportunity to receive a printed copy of the FCPS SR&R Guide for Families. 

You can complete this requirement through your ParentVue account in a matter of seconds. Upon login to your ParentVue account, you will be prompted immediately to complete the SR&R signature page. Note that your name in the digital signature box must match the parent/guardian’s first and last name in SIS exactly before the signature will be accepted. The prompt will repeat in ParentVue until the signature page has been completed. 

Students will review this year’s SR&R in class during the first week of school.

Student Arrival and Dismissal

The building will be accessible to students starting at 7:30 am.   

Dismissal is at 2:55 pm.  Students are asked to leave the building at the end of the day unless they are being supervised by an adult. Any student who wishes to stay after school must be in the supervision of a staff member.  

Traffic Patterns at Arrival and Dismissal

All drivers are strongly encouraged to follow all traffic/roadway laws and driving patterns as established. This ensures the safety of all and maximizes the efficiency of our traffic pattern. Please follow all posted signs and directions of staff. The first week of school, traffic is traditionally heavier than normal.  Please allow additional time if you are driving your student to school and/or your student is driving themselves to school.  

Chantilly High School strives to maintain positive relationships with our surrounding neighbors. To that end, we ask that everyone respects private property while walking to and from school. In addition, no neighborhoods should be used as kiss-and-ride drop off or pick-up locations.  This practice severely impacts our neighbors and their daily schedules.  

Parking at CHS

Parking on the campus of Chantilly High School and Chantilly Park (west side of Stringfellow Rd ) is strictly enforced with the use of assigned parking spots verified with required display of current year permits.  Violators will be ticketed with student accounts accumulating fines.   Vehicles will also be tagged for towing upon a repeat offense.   Signs notifying drivers of the parking restrictions are posted at each entrance.   Visitor spots are monitored and are strictly for temporary school visitors who check in at the main office.  

The FCPSOn initiative in FCPS provides students with equitable access to meaningful learning experiences and technology to support their learning. Each Chantilly student will receive an FCPS-issued Chromebook to access dynamic resources and participate in learning tailored to the student’s individual needs. Loaner Chromebooks will only be available for students whose Chromebooks are in need of repair. 

The mission of FCPSOn is to provide equitable access to technology and to instructional practices that lead to Portrait of a Graduate outcomes for ALL students. 

What are the benefits of using an FCPSOn device? 

1. Technology Support: Technology support will be available throughout the school year for all FCPSOn devices.  Students will be provided a loaner laptop for the duration of any repairs that cannot be addressed in a short visit or through a teleconference.  Technology support, nor loaner laptops, will not be available for personally-owned devices.

2. Access to Curricular Software:  Some instructional applications require local installation on FCPSOn devices. FCPS license agreements will not allow for installation on personally-owned devices. FCPSOn curricular software will be preloaded on FCPSOn laptops or available through APPV. Families will be responsible for cost and installation support of such instructional applications if they choose to use personally-owned devices.

3. Classroom Instructional Planning: Instructional staff will be planning their lessons around the known capabilities of the FCPSOn device. Using the FCPSOn device ensures that you/your student has access to all software needed for a given class period or assignment.  Teachers will also be able to help students with FCPSOn devices troubleshoot any student concerns and assist in seeking additional support as needed. 

4. Cost to Repair and Replace Personal Devices:   If  a student accidentally damages their FCPSOn device, on site tech support specialists will repair the device as well as provide a loaner, which will ensure learning is not interrupted by not having a working device.  Loaners will not be provided for any time when a student is without their personally owned device.  When we return to school, bringing a personally owned device to school comes with the inherent danger of the device being damaged, lost, or possibly even stolen.  Since students bring their own devices to school at their discretion the cost for repairing or replacing the device falls on the family, not the school.  The device selected for purchase for all of our high schools was chosen due to its durability with the knowledge that it would be carried back and forth from home and school each day along with between classes.  Even so, we recognize repairs may be needed, so we again have loaners on hand that will be provided to any student whose FCPS device is having an issue. 

5. Separation of School and Personal Information:  Having an FCPSOn device and a personal device provides a Digital Citizenship lesson. It teaches students to complete school work on their FCPS laptop and to do personal things, such as shop or play games on their personal device. This is the standard in the workplace and provides a good learning environment for students to develop the habits they will need later on in life.

6. FCPS Laptops Are Needed for Testing:  FCPS standardized assessments such as SOL testing must be done on a school-issued device. Students will be able to walk into a testing environment ready to go with the FCPSOn device.  Students will be able to take their high stakes tests on devices that they have been accustomed to working on throughout the year. Students working on their own devices, will still have to use the FCPSOn device, which would be unfamiliar to them.  

7. Network Access: Once students are back on campus, network access will be preset to serve the needs of FCPS owned devices. Only a small portion of our network will be allotted to personally owned devices. This will lead to students on personally owned devices having much slower wifi. Additionally, all FCPSOn devices have the ability to print at school.  Personally owned devices will be unable to connect to FCPS printers.

Students, families, and teachers throughout FCPS and in our school community will use Schoology (pronounced /SKOO-luh-jee/) as our learning management system. Schoology is a learning space that enhances communication, collaboration, and personalized learning for all.

The student grade level Schoology pages have all sorts of information, including school-wide announcements, tech support links, and information applicable to each specific grade level. This includes announcements and information pertinent to the specific grade level.

The Chantilly parent Schoology page includes various resources, upcoming events and timely announcements.  Parents are also able to access their student class Schoology pages through their parent Schoology account.

At Chantilly High School we believe a grade should communicate learning as students progress toward mastery.  We believe teachers and students should prioritize learning and growth over grades.  We believe that in order for students to be successful, they must engage in the learning process, including completing all learning activities (graded and non-graded), and we will continue to collaborate to create time and support, both within the school day and after school, for students to do so.

The goal of the clinic is to ensure that your child will enjoy a healthy and safe school year. To proactively plan, we ask that parents update the Emergency Care Form through SIS ParentVUE; there is a section for “Current Health Conditions” and “Current Medical Care Details” that will update the health information for the student.  

If you need to drop off medication for your student, please fill out a new medication authorization form.  This is required to be filled out annually.  

Medication can be dropped off during our Open House from 4:30-7pm on Thursday, August 15.  Once school begins, medication can be dropped off any school day from 8am-3pm. If medication is needed at school or for any after FCPS sponsored activity (field trips, sports, band, drama, chorus, etc.), specific guidelines in accordance with the FCPS Medication Administration Regulation 2102 must be followed. A Medication Authorization form MUST be on file in the Health Room for any medication administered at school OR carried by student. Forms (for epinephrine, inhalers and medications) are available online.

Medication Guidelines

To help ensure the safety of our medication administration management in Fairfax County Public Schools we will adhere to these guidelines:

• Any time you drop off or pick up a medication in the health room, a Medication Delivery/Pick Up Form will be completed and signed by both the parent/guardian and the School Health Aide or FCPS staff member. This form will document that all required authorizations are complete, and the number of pills or amount of medication accepted/returned. A copy of the form will be given to the parent/guardian and school administrator.
• Medications received will be verified to ensure the description of the medication on the container/packaging matches the medication in the container.
• All medications must be in the original pharmacy container. Over the counter (OTC) medications must be in an unopened original container.
• Only a 30-day supply of medications should be brought to school. No more than 25 tablets or pills of OTC medication should be brought to school.

All requirements outlined in FCPS Regulation 2102, First Aid, Emergency Treatment and Administration of Medication for Students, continue to apply.

School Attendance is Important

Research shows that the single most important factor contributing to student achievement is school attendance.

Absent students miss out on discussion, raised questions, explanations and much more.  Students fall behind and sometimes never recover.

• Chronic absenteeism (missing 18 or more school days per year) is a primary cause of lower academic achievement even when the absences are "excused" or understandable.
• Students who attend 90% or more of the school year are more likely to graduate from high school on time.
• Absences can be a sign that a student is losing interest in school, struggling with school work, dealing with peer conflicts or facing some other potentially serious difficulty, and help is available.

So, what can you do as a parent to help?

• Talk with your child about the importance of attending school regularly.
• Avoid scheduling family trips or doctor appointments during school hours.
• Make sure your student eats healthy foods and gets enough sleep and exercise. 
• Don't accept excuses from your child why they "must" miss or be late for school.
• Discuss what happened at school each day.
• Support school rules and consequences for skipping class and being tardy.

The Chantilly HS cafeteria will sell breakfast and lunch daily.  If your student plans on purchasing food through the cafeteria, please be sure to load money on their meal account or bring cash.  More information on FCPS Food Services (including payment options for meal accounts, daily menus, free and reduced meal programs, etc.) can be reviewed on the FCPS website. 

Eligible families are encouraged to submit the Free and Reduced-Price Meal application before the first day of the 2024-25 school year. More information is on the FCPS website, including forms to apply for Free or Reduced Lunch and Consent to Share Information.

School Counselors

Chantilly’s school counselors work directly with students, teachers, and parents to provide students a supportive and caring school experience. Students and parents are encouraged to reach out to their counselor with academic concerns, questions about college and career information, or mental health concerns.

The Assistant Principals work along with the counselors to support students. The duties for each assistant principal for the 2024-2025 school year are outlined on our website. Please do not hesitate to reach out when you have a question or concern.

If your student has an IEP, they will be assigned a case manager for the year. The case manager is your first point of contact for any questions or concerns regarding the IEP.

If your student has a 504 plan, their case manager is their school counselor and any questions or concerns should be directed to them.

Priority will be assigned to Rising Seniors (Class of 2025). After Senior spots are assigned, any remaining spots will be assigned to Rising Juniors (Class of 2026).  Rising Sophomores (Class of 2027) may only apply for a spot after the start of the school year if there are spots remaining.

In Virginia, it's required by law for students to have certain immunizations to attend school. This is supported by guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Virginia Department of Health, and FCPS Regulation 2101.

Starting Monday, September 30, students who have not provided proof of immunization will not be allowed to attend school.

You can check your child’s immunization compliance by accessing ParentVUE. 

Families of students with incomplete immunization records need to provide acceptable proof of immunization to their child's school as soon as possible. You can find the list of required immunizations on the General Registration Immunizations webpage.

All parents/guardians should receive an eNotify email message directly from Fairfax County Public Schools Office of Transportation on August 9, 2024.  That email will provide details on the transportation intent process for families and how to access transportation assignments for students.  Transportation assignments will become available on August 12, 2024, and changes may be made up to August 16, 2024.

All parents should access their SIS ParentVue account to ensure the Transportation Intent for each student is accurate. Through your SIS ParentVue account, you can see your child’s transportation assignments and intent on the “Student Info” tab. If adjustments are needed, click on “Edit Information” to make changes to your Transportation Intent. All students eligible for transportation services will be provided transportation unless the parent has stated ‘NO’ to the Transportation Intent.

Please contact the transportation office or the Chantilly Main Office if you have any questions about accessing your student information.

Late buses will run on Thursday afternoons and will start on Thursday, September 5th and the last day they run will be Thursday, May 22. The late bus schedule will be posted on Schoology; students can also find their bus number on StudentVUE.

FCPS Cell Phone Policy

As detailed in a letter sent to all families August 12, 2024, Chantilly HS will be following the FCPS School Board Policy that was adopted at its meeting on May 9. Here are the key points:

• Cell phones may be used on campus before the first bell, after the last bell, during passing periods, and lunches only.
• All Phone accessories are also to be silenced and away when phone use is prohibited. Smart watches that serve a dual purpose may be worn, but the phone features (texting, Internet viewing, and calls) are to be off when phone use is prohibited. Airplane mode is encouraged.
• Students with a documented health or educational need through special services may have an exception. Please work through your child’s administrator if you believe an exception is needed.
• Chantilly staff will implement the FCPS policy and document any cell phone use offenses in SIS for tracking purposes.. Additionally, staff will be asked not to use cell phones for instructional activities without obtaining permission from the administration first.
• You can find more information on FCPS’ cell phone policy webpage (for all schools) and cell phone storage webpage (for schools that are getting storage containers). Both of these webpages include a button to provide feedback.
