FCPS Status Friday, January 10, 2025: Schools and Offices Open with 2 Hour Delay
Hello FCPS Staff and Families,
I would like to begin by restating my gratitude to our staff for working to prepare our schools for a safe reopening, as well as for providing meal kits to students during this week’s closures.
In addition, I appreciate the partnership of the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), who has been coordinating with our team to address specific secondary roads that have been a concern for many of our students and staff to get to school safely.
With that in mind, schools and offices will be open with a two-hour delay tomorrow, Friday, January 10, 2025. This delay will allow walkers and buses to safely head out after sunrise, making it easier for motorists to see students. VDOT will continue working through the night and into the morning to continue to improve the conditions on secondary roads. We ask that our student drivers take their time on the roads or consider riding the bus.
In addition:
- Morning preschool (special education) classes are canceled.
- Afternoon preschool classes start on their regular schedule.
- Full-day preschool (special education) and Early Head Start/Pre-K classes start two hours later than the regular schedule.
- Morning field trips are canceled.
- Morning transportation for high school academy classes is canceled. Transportation will be provided for academy classes that start after 12:45 p.m.
- Adult High School and GED courses will start two hours late.
- Adult and Community Education (ACE) classes will start on time.
- Homebound and home-based instruction will begin at 10 a.m.
- School Age Child Care (SACC) centers will open at 8 a.m.
Central offices will open to the public at 10 a.m.
I recognize that it will be some time before every roadway, sidewalk, and bus stop are completely clear, so please make the decision that is best for your family.
Stay Safe.
Warmest regards,
Dr. Michelle Reid
Superintendent
