Advanced Placement & Honors Courses
Chantilly offers both Honors and Advanced Placement (AP) courses. Courses are open to all students who seek academic rigor. Curriculum for these courses extends beyond the Program of Studies (POS) in both depth and complexity. Deciding which course is best for you is a complex decision with many factors that should be considered. The information below as well as conversation with your counselor will help you to decide on the best courses for you.
Advanced Placement Coordinator
This section is meant to engender some serious thinking on your part about your schedule for next year. We would like you to think about your priorities and how you would like your life to unfold next school year. We encourage you to stretch academically, to participate in other activities and to be healthy. Answer these questions truthfully, talk to teachers, counselors, peers and do some research about what particular schools want to see. We sincerely encourage you to get all the information that you can and then make the best informed decision for you.

Questions to consider and discuss before you register
Before you meet individually with your counselor, be sure that you have seriously considered the following questions and discussed them with your parents. While no one expects that to be overwhelmed by too many commitments, it does tend to happen, even to the best of us.
- How much time do I have to devote to the course work?
- Do I have enough time in the day for all of my commitments?
- How committed am I to doing my best in this course if it proves a challenge for me?
- Have I considered the cumulative effect of taking multiple honors/AP courses?
- What will happen if this course load is difficult?
- Would I be satisfied with a grade less than a B?
